THE INFLUENCES
In the run up to my chosen path of scriptwriting, several things.... pushed me along into my decisions. here is a list of a few, and hopefully, after (if you choose to) veiwing/reading/whatever some of these, you will understand too.
NEON GENESIS EVANGELION - GAINAX, 1995
Simply wow. probaly my biggest foreign influence, hailing from japan. This Anime series follows a post "Second Impact" world struggling in a final ditch effort against the "Angels", beings of destruction for the survival of humanity. to light this threat, mankind has made his ultimate weapon, the pinnacle of his evolution: the being known as Evangelion. However, the only people who can pilot these Evas are children of a particular calliber, and all mentally unstable.
This was probaly the first thing i saw that opened me up to implicit meanings - that media materials have a suttle undertow, something you must think for. Thurruly worth it.
ALIEN - RIDLEY SCOTT, 1979
My favourite horror film of all time. period. The film follows the crew of the mining ship Nostromo, responding to a distress call whilst on their way back from a mining job, only to find a unknown, murderous creature, first as the facehugger, then after mans fear of birth, the monstrous creature itself.
fantastic visuals, exposing the hidden fears of childbirth, rape, male penetration and has a fantastic atmosphere. Get it. As for the sequels, second is worth the watch. Third is..... bleh, but bearable. Avoid ressurection like the plague.
